About Vanguard Veterinary Hospital

Vanguard Veterinary Hospital is a full-service small animal veterinary hospital in West End, NC, providing professional care for dogs and cats. Established with roots in working dog medicine, our AAHA-accredited and Fear Free Certified practice offers conventional, integrative, and rehabilitation-focused care for pets across the Sandhills.

Veterinary Excellence With a Fear Free Approach

Vanguard Veterinary Hospital was established in 2012 with a focused purpose: supporting government contracts in working dog medicine. In spring 2014, the hospital expanded into a full-service small animal veterinary private practice, bringing that same dedication to dogs, cats, and pet owners throughout West End and the surrounding Sandhills communities.

Solely owned by Dr. Dana A. Vamvakias, Vanguard Veterinary Hospital was accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association just three months after opening to the public. That accreditation reflects our continued commitment to veterinary excellence, patient care, client satisfaction, and high medical standards.

Our mission is to provide routine and advanced diagnostics, high-quality medicine, complementary medical care, and rehabilitation therapy through a balanced integration of conventional, complementary, and alternative medicine. We focus on whole-body health while respecting each patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

As a Fear Free Certified Practice, our team works to reduce fear, anxiety, stress, and pain associated with veterinary visits. Patients are cared for in a way that supports comfort, trust, and safety, with thoughtful handling techniques and a calm hospital environment designed for dogs, cats, and their owners.

For pet owners looking for advanced care, our hospital provides services that include rehabilitation, pain management, advanced dentistry, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, and advanced imaging. You can explore these options on our Veterinary Services page or contact our team to learn which care path may be right for your pet.
